About
Samantha Seurynck Griffith [American, 1994] is a folk programmer and fiber artist blending the two practices to craft ecologically-centric future visions. Taking cues from the natural world, open-source/DIY movements and early internet culture, she weaves niche technological concepts and accessible practices into her interdisciplinary works.
Her work situates itself at a site of translation. From code to craft and back again, she illustrates how technology is a container for culture. Due to the power distribution in contemporary times, the devices we use the most are representative of the values of the very few. Samantha asks with her work, what if we regained agency over our tech by implementing our own?
As the global north catapults planet earth towards 3 degrees warming at full speed, we need visions of the future that are both inspiring and at our fingertips. Samantha weaves these things together in her practice, a radical and non-apologetic call for continued life on earth.
